TYPHOON “LAWIN” RUINS THE NORTHERN LUZON ZONE

Last October 17, Typhoon “Lawin” entered the Philippine area of responsibility, extremely intensified with astronomical whirlwind.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated that typhoon “Lawin” caused a storm signal with sustained forceful winds of 220 km/h surging near 270 km/h centralized in four regions including Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao, Northern Abra, Ilocos Norte and Cagayan Valley.

In these subjective regions, over 697 million to 581.9  million of infrastructures and 75.8 million of agriculture were pulverized. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) proclaimed a total of 29, 533 families, 116, 826 persons who were accommodated in 1, 095 evacuation centers.

However, Cagayan Valley groups and tribes experienced a direct strike from a puissant category 5 typhoon. In line with this, the typhoon caused power interruptions, corrupted cellular and internet lines.

PCSO Board of Director Atty. Mabel Villarica-Mamba established a volunteer group with the help of JCI Marilag to give a hand to the victims. Regional Government conducted clearing operations for road sections and bridges as well as the restoration of electric current supply and communication lines. 

Donations and grocery supplies were also disseminated to the victims of typhoon. Consistency in giving relief goods and financial assistance were maintained during the affected victims’ recovery period.
